"Refining My Educational Philosophy with Chatbot Guidance"

 

    I gained some prompting skills from the first chatbot assignment and tried to apply them this time. I made sure that my prompts were well thought out and asked in a way that would ‘force’ the chatbot into giving me detailed responses. And consequently, I got what I asked for. The chatbot's output included very detailed responses that answered every bit of each prompt I entered. As a result, some of the outputs were somewhat lengthy, but the inclusion of sub-headlines simplified the information the chatbot provided. Nevertheless, the chatbot provided me with some best practice methods that I could utilize to integrate my teaching beliefs with various technologies.

    Another important thing the chatbot did was show me ways I could use my teaching beliefs to measure and increase student understanding. It's hard to tell if students are learning and applying the material, so it was helpful for it to recognize my concern in my prompt and offer tips. I was even more surprised when it mentioned my grading method, detailed the pros and cons, and provided guidance on how to maintain a balanced approach for all of my students. This was very helpful because sometimes I struggle with how hard or lenient to grade material in a way that will help the student understand versus just giving raw feedback. 

    The only downside I’d say during this experience was that some of the output was a little repetitive. The output was not identical, but rather it conveyed the same concept of solution in certain areas. Each time, the output included more information than before, but the core of each section remained essentially the same. This could potentially be attributed to my prompting skills and my inability to clearly understand the answer I am seeking; this is a new experience for me, as I haven't had much experience with such software prior to this class. However, the bit of repetition does not outweigh the beneficial and useful information the chatbot provided throughout the majority of the output.

    Overall, the chatbot's output provided valuable ideas and insights about my teaching beliefs and philosophy. These insights will not only assist me in writing my Educational Technology Philosophy, but also help me improve as a teacher and advance my career.
